Abstract

This article discusses cost-effective and efficient filter materials, as well as the operating experience
of other plants. The effectiveness of all the listed water-saving measures at water treatment plants (WTPs), which
significantly reduce raw water consumption and wastewater discharge volumes, is confirmed not only by calculations
but also by water meter readings. However, this effect can be significantly offset by existing shortcomings in water
consumption and wastewater disposal metering methods and the condition of utility meters. The key indicator
determining the effectiveness of the implemented measures is the volume of wastewater discharged over a given
period. This indicator is typically not physically determined, but calculated by subtracting readings from various meters: raw water flow rate and network water flow rate through the supply and return pipes of the heating network.
This method, which combines the errors of several measuring devices, makes it difficult to achieve acceptable
accuracy in estimating wastewater volumes. Moreover, with this approach, all raw water is conventionally divided
into only two parts: that used to feed the heating network and that discharged into the sewer. In practice, some of
the water may be used for other technological needs.
